Step Up For Mental Health: Changing minds about mental health and its impact on families
Step Up For Mental Health (formerly AJW Foundation) is a peer-to-peer advocacy group designed to help support family members caring for someone with a mental illness and educate the public on mental health issues. We are here to share personal stories and to help others make sense of the stigma and fear associated with illnesses such as depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
Step Up For Mental Health educates families and the public on mental health issues. We are here to help families understand and manage the challenges surrounding the many types of disorders associated with mental health.
There are many issues related to mental health: Families, kids and teens learning in school, poverty, hunger, homelessness, job lose, the elderly, stigma and loneliness. Mental health touches a variety of groups and backgrounds. We know there is much misconceptions about how to help a family member cope with this disease, and how to assist the caregiver to manage the day-to-day struggle of keeping them safe.
Providing support and services
Our goal is to make life easier for families dealing with mental health issues. For example, if a parent is struggling to feed, cloth, or help their children in school preparation, (Books, school trips, monthly bus passes, etc.) Step Up For Mental Health can assist with a living grant to help offset families in need.
If a parent is struggling to find services, peers and support groups in dealing with a child, teen or young adult, our mission is to find a solution to their family’s needs.
